The Department of Constitutional, International and Criminal Law

The Department of Constitutional, International and Criminal Law was established on January 1, 2015 by merging two Departments: the Department of Constitutional and International Law and the Department of Criminal Law. The Department of Constitutional and International Law began its history with the establishment in 1972 of the Department of Soviet Law, later renamed first the Department of Jurisprudence and then the Department of Constitutional and International Law (2000). The Department of Criminal Law and Procedure was established in 2000.

Associate Professor O.P. Lapay headed the Department from September 1972 to June 1978. The founder of the Faculty of Economics and Law, one of the most famous and respected teachers-lawyers of Donetsk and Ukraine, Professor V.D. Volkov headed the Department from June 1978 to September 2007. Doctor of Law, Professor (currently Rector of Donetsk National University) R.F. Grynyuk became the head of the Department in 2007.

Candidate of Law, Associate Professor V.N Chichko and Doctor of Law, Professor O.M. Moiseev headed the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure at different times.

Since May 2018, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor Olha Grigorivna Turchenko has been heading the Department.

The Department has strong human resources. Today the staff of the Department: 11 full-time teachers, including: 1 – Professor of the Department, Doctor of Law, Professor; 1 – Doctor of Law, Associate Professor, 7 – Associate Professors, Candidates of Law, 6 of them have the academic title of associate professor, 2 – senior lecturers.

Under the educational program «081 Law (081 LAW)» (Bachelor’s degree) the Department provides such fundamental disciplines as constitutional law of Ukraine, criminal law, criminology, criminal procedural law, international law, forensics and a number of elective disciplines (in total, the Department provides 18 disciplines at this level of education).

There are scientific articles in journals included in Scopus and WoS scientometric databases. The number of such scientific articles in each of the mentioned teachers of the Department: R.F. Grynyuk and E.M. Derkach – 3; three teachers (O.G. Turchenko, I.S. Shchebetun, L.O. Nikitenko) – 2; three teachers (R.O. Movchan, S.O. Patiuk, I.E. Zhdanova) – 1.

The department trains postgraduate and doctoral students in the specialty 081 «Law». Currently, 15 graduate students of the first – fourth years of study are being trained.

Three lecturers of the Department (R.F. Grynyuk, O.G. Turchenko, E.M. Derkach) are members of the specialized academic council K-11.051.12 of Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University for the defense of candidate dissertations in the specialty 12.00.04 – economic law, economic and procedural right. R.F. Grynyuk is also a member of the specialized academic council K-11.051.13 of Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University for the defense of candidate dissertations in the specialty 23.00.02 – political institutes and processes at Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University.

All teachers of the Department and graduate students of 3-4 years of study are executors of the initiative topic «Legal support of socio-economic development: status and prospects» (state registration number 0118U003140, code 3-I / 12.0-44) (2017-2021).

Teachers, graduate students of the Department and students of higher education take an active part in scientific and practical events held in Ukraine and other countries. Only in 2019-2020, teachers of the Department took part in more than 20 international and national scientific and practical conferences, round tables and forums.

Teachers of the Department provide scientific consulting to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. R.F. Grynyuk and O.G. Turchenko are members of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine (Resolution of the CCU of April 9, 2019 №12-n / 2019).
